Kemar Raises the Bar!
As if being a multi-medalled track-star; junior world-ranked high-jumper and academically astute weren't enough; Kemar Jones has added Modelling to the ever growing list of things he's good at and begun his walk down the catwalk to fame.
The latest GADAL Model has started his Model debut with photographer Adrian Richards. Here is a sneak-peek at some of his first images ever!
Here is Kemar in typical 'skater-boy' attire. Printed pants (Stylist), black 'snap-back' cap and white vans (model's own). Styled by Adrian Richards.
Gadal Model Management Inc. has signed a number of models and placed them successfully internationally with Agencies abroad.
Black leatherette pants and 'scaled' sleeve (Alexis Campbell), aviators (Stylist)
We anticipate that Kemar will join that list if his enthusiasm and willingness to learn are anything to judge by!

Black v-neck shirt (model's own), black leatherette pants (by Alexis Campbell) black shoes and bag (Stylist).
With a boy-ish charm and endearing smile Kemar can be 'the boy next-door' and in a moment and debonair and sophisticated the next.

Modelling 101: Water
In the study of human behaviour, experts have found a curious paradox- the easier the task, the less willing people are to do it because they see it as too 'little' or trivial to achieve the results they want.
Ask a man to dive into the ocean for treasure and he's all ready but ask him to sane ten dollars a day and the excuses of why he can't save; or was never good at saving or; "what can ten dollars do?" mount-up.
The irony is, that that ten dollars after a year becomes $3,650.00 and in ten years becomes $36, 500.00 a guaranteed treasure.
Add to this paradox the desire for instant gratification; where everyone wants results NOW and an unwillingness to stick with anything for the long-term and the picture becomes even more vivid as to why many fail to achieve their goals.
Success is much less about 'luck' and much more about preparation and consistency; and finally, as a mentor would say "Doing it, is doing it" - no amount of TALK about doing it will achieve anything- ONLY DOING.
So when a model asks, "What do I need to do?" I'm reluctant to answer; but still do and watch as their face turns to disappointment when I say, "Start by drinking more water" [3litres a day actually]. The look is usually, "Did he hear what I asked; I asked for the secret- not some crappy answer!"
The benefits of drinking adequate amounts of water are so numerous that an entire blog could be devoted to that topic and still wouldn't be exhaustive.
Perhaps the best part about water, for most of us- unlike protein powder, gym membership and training is FREE!

The benefits of drinking adequate amounts of water are so numerous that an entire blog could be devoted to that topic and still wouldn't be exhaustive.
The benefits include but are certainly not limited to:
Hydrating your body and helping your vital organs to work better [consider that over 70% of your body and 90% of your brain consist of water].
Flushing your body [especially skin] of toxins- a healthy inside makes a beautiful outside.
Speeds-up your recovery time from injuries [and in the gym] helping the body repair itself faster.
Helps you sleep better [sleep is essential for muscle repair and growth after exercise] and makes you feel more rested.
The more water you drink the harder your body works to flush it out which is great news for female models worried about 'weight' and bloating when their menstrual cycle starts.
Perhaps the best part about water, for most of us- unlike protein powder, gym membership and training is FREE!
So before you look for that latest exercise gadget, head to the gym or look for the newest exercise regime. Try the TAP and wipe that look of disappointment off your face.

The Making of Kemar
This is NOT your typical 'Before Shot'!
What improvements could be made on a 'canvas' of dark-chocolate; an endearing smile and a six-foot two frame?
Keep checking...
Kemar the latest stunner to be 'made' in the GADAL Lab has some surprises up his sleeve. With Adrian Richards behind the lens and designer-godess Alexis Campbell supplying the clothing this is a photo-shoot you won't want to miss!

Who's That Chick?
Danielle is the definition of "sweet". Obviously the product of a 'good up-bringing', she is polite and precise in a way that can only be replicated by 'finishing school'. She attends what has historically been know as the top school in the island Harrison College; but there is no cockiness about this lass. Her humility is actually one of her most endearing features..her voice a few octaves above a whisper...
Put a pair of heels, a dress and make-up on however, and she suddenly transforms into a fashion-diva goddess and every inch of her 5' 9" frame commands your attention.
Her eyes exude a quiet but steely confidence like the 'eye of the storm'.
When Barbadian fashion-prodigy and Italian-trained fashion designer Antonio Cumberbatch; (who is a bombshell in his own right) chose Danielle to shoot for some of his latest pieces in what was her very first photoshoot; we at GADAL were delighted!
If these images are anything to judge by, we think you will be too!
Captured by the lens of Michael "Mikey" Rapley each piece is edgy, provocative and a perfect blend of both masculine and feminine elements; contrasting starkly against the beautiful and relaxed backdrop of the sand-dunes and sea-grape undergrowth on the coastline of St. Andrew in the paradise of Barbados.
Make-up was meticulously applied to the model by Colour Coded.
Add to this talent pool the extremely talented Cecil Evans of Caribbean Retouch; the master retoucher himself and you have a spread worthy of the best high-end glossy or flashy online-magazine fashion can throw your way. You know you have model-potential when you can get any one of these people out of their bed; furthermore the entire team!
So who's that chick?
Danielle baby! And she's here to stay!

The Bjorne Identity! Feel your pulse, are YOU ready?
Innocent, simple and unassuming...words that can easily be used to describe the young boy in the image below; that is, unless you are an Agent. It takes a real eye to see the smoldering potential of such an "unassuming" face and a good photographer like Eustace Dyer to capture what an Agent sees in his head and unveil that to the world. Its the kind of capture that changes what everyone sees at first glance from this...

Into this!
With an intense gaze and amazing symmetry and a gleam of genius in his eyes- Bjorne is the embodiment of what happens when a model comes under the gaze of GADAL. The 'new face' hails from the sister island of Trinidad and is just one of many of the next 'freshmen class' of GADAL Model Management Inc.
At just 16 years old we see a star in the making; if you think differently just look into those eyes- this ship is ready to sail! See more photos here.

"BLACK and PROUD!" takes WORK!
While watching X-Men First Class, I was intrigued by Mystique's coined phrase- "Mutant and Proud".
It reminded me of the popular and more poignant term "Black and Proud" made popular in the 1970's; but what does it mean to be "Black and Proud" in Fashion?
The topic of racism within the fashion industry at large and the model industry specifically, has been spoken, written and talked about for many years with little pockets of success that keep the hopes of black models alive - when they see what they feel are landmark points in the fashion trajectory.
Over the years many black models have and continue to make their mark in the fashion world. Two examples are used here since a list of all the many who contribute would be very lengthy.
Tyson on his reality series "Make Me A Supermodel" called Naomi his "sister" and indicated that Naomi often used her influence to get him jobs and vice versa.
The rise of the black model however looks like a fluctuating graph with its many falls right after each peak and while individual battles have been won the war is far from over!
An african proverb says, "It takes a village to raise a child"; fashion is no different- until the black Agents, Designers, Event Producers, Photographers, Stylist, Writers and the Models themselves start really, really rallying around each other the war will be lost and the battles become nothing but mere memories.
The work of major publication Italian Vogue certainly deserves thunderous applauds! But what of the rest of us? What can we do? Two words, "excellence" and "loyalty" to each other as a people in the industry.
As an agent I feel frustrated when it's the black models that aren't prepared, the black models who take months to get into the gym, the black models who aren't strict about diet, aren't dedicated and never take responsibility for their actions, full of excuses and then...shocked when success doesn't come their way.
Or when they are finally prepared; try to use everyone (mostly their black counterparts) to get where they are going with no thought of loyalty or respect - but jump through hoops to follow the advice, request of the caucasians in the industry instead.
Success always takes a team to accomplish and as with all things worth achieving sacrifices have to be made, so make the people on your team feel valued by being your best and treating them the same.
Only when we see the value in ourselves to demand nothing less than excellence from "the man in the mirror" and the value in our brothers an sisters to be loyal to them and rally to their (which is really our) cause only then will the small pockets of success become a wave of victory!
In a video that was nothing short of touching- Tarrice Love talks about why he shoots black and the self-sacrifice that often no one knows about; for ANY player in the industry who pushes for our own.
For many of us the business end, 'bottom line' and financial gain are sacrificed on the altar of love- because for every "bad career" move we make in the advancement of our own people, it is indeed a labour of love!
So, to my brothers and sisters who want to be a successful Agent, Blogger, Designer, Event Producer, Model, Photographer, Stylist or Writer...
Hard work and unity throughout history have transported us from slaves to the Senate from prisoners to Presidents; and fashion will be no different!

Over the years many black models have and continue to make their mark in the fashion world. Two examples are used here since a list of all the many who contribute would be very lengthy.
Naomi Campbell was scouted at the young age of 15 and her career quickly took-off with her landing the cover of British Elle just before her 16th birthday. She went on to become one of three of the the most recognisable and in-demand models in the 1980's called "The Trinity" (Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista being the other two).
However that did not stop her from being faced with racism- she is said to have quoted Turlington and Evangelista as saying to Dolce & Gabbana, "If you don't use Naomi, you don't get us." Naomi is one of a select few to have been given the title of 'Super Model' and one of the few celebrities instantly recognisable by first name only.
Tyson Beckford's rise in the model world and being named VH1's "Model of the Year" and one of People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in the World placed him firmly in the list of fashion icons and brought a whole new meaning to the term 'Male Supermodel'.
Tyson on his reality series "Make Me A Supermodel" called Naomi his "sister" and indicated that Naomi often used her influence to get him jobs and vice versa.

Happy Father's Day!
We want to take this opportunity to salute ALL the Dad's on yet another Father's Day and in particular the 'Model Dads' of GADAL Model Management Inc. Ramon 'Doddy' Dodson, Mario Small and Johan Rogers.
Just about any 17 year-old can be a father but it takes commitment, dedication, sacrifice and love to be a 'Daddy'. As black men we are particularly pleased that these three are setting the bar high.
We are proud of the great job each of these young fathers are doing with their children. Anyone who knows them can confirm that they are truly Model Fathers!
